Tell your doctor about all medications you use. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, vitamin, and herbal products.
How Does Canesten Vaginal cream Work?
Canesten Vaginal Cream contains the active ingredient clotrimazole, which is an antifungal medicine used to treat infections with fungi and yeasts.
Canesten Vaginal Cream kills the Candida fungi causing the thrush infection by interfering with their cell membranes. The cell membranes of fungi are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering the cells and stop the contents of the cells from leaking out. Canesten Vaginal Cream makes holes appear in these membranes, which kills the fungi and clears up the infection.
The cream is inserted high into the vagina to allow the Canesten Vaginal Cream to act directly in the area of infection.

Drug To Drug Interaction
Concomitant medication with vaginal clotrimazole and oral tacrolimus (FK-506; immunosuppressant) might lead to increased tacrolimus plasma levels levels and similarly with sirolimus. Patients should thus be closely monitored for signs and symptoms of tacrolimus or sirolimus overdosage, if necessary by determination of the respective plasma levels.

Opthalmic use = Canesten Vaginal Cream is not recommended for use in the eyes. Both purposeful and accidental application of this medicine into the eyes should be avoided.
Use only in confirmed infection = Canesten Vaginal Cream should not be used until the infection is diagnosed by a doctor. Other diseases may also show similar symptoms.
Vaginal irritation = Canesten Vaginal Cream may cause burning and irritation upon vaginal application. Consult your doctor if the symptoms do not improve and the irritation persists.
Resistance = Canesten Vaginal Cream should be used for the full prescribed course even when the symptoms get better. The infection may recur and the fungi may get less sensitive to the medicine resulting in drug resistance if it is not used for the full prescribed course.

Storage Of Canesten Vaginal cream
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
It is important to keep all medication out of sight and reach of children as many containers (such as weekly pill minders and those for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and young children can open them easily. To protect young children from poisoning, always lock safety caps and immediately place the medication in a safe location – one that is up and away and out of their sight and reach.
