Febutaz 40mg Tablet is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. It works by decreasing blood uric acid, which is the chemical that causes gout.

What is Febutaz 40mg Tablet?

Febutaz 40 MG Tablet is used for decreasing the symptoms of gout. The symptoms could be swelling, pain, soreness, redness and stiffness in certain joints of the body. It belongs to the group of medications called xanthine oxidase inhibitors. The medicine works by decreasing the level of uric acid by blocking the xanthine oxidase enzyme. This enzyme helps the body to make uric acid from xanthine. When there are high levels of uric acid in the blood, it can lead to gout and the symptoms associated with it.

The common side effects of Febutaz 40 MG Tablet include joint pain, nausea, rash or a flare up of gout. At times, it can also lead to inaccurate results if you undergo a liver function test. These side effects are generally mild in nature and tend to go away in a few days. However, consult your doctor immediately in case of serious side effects like:

  • Tiredness, sudden weight loss, loss of appetite, dark urine or discomfort in the upper right portion of the abdomen; indicating a liver problem

Febuxostat can be taken with or without food.

If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Febuxostat medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.
