What Is Hydroquin 200mg?
This Tablet is used for Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus arthritis, autoimmune diseases and other conditions. Hydroquin Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
This Tablet contains Hydroxychloroquine Sulphate Usp as an active ingredient.
This Tablet works by preventing malaria infections as well as skin problems in lupus.
How Does Hydroquin 200mg Work?
This Tablet is a Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatoid Drug (DMARD). It works by suppressing the overactivity of the immune system that causes inflammation (swelling) and pain in the joints. This slows the progression of the underlying disease.
What Is Route Of Administration?
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it.

Eye problems such as changes in the colour of your eye

An allergic reaction marked by red or lumpy rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of the eyelids, lips, face, throat or tongue
Blistering or peeling of the skin around the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals, flu-like symptoms and fever (Stevens – Johnson syndrome)
Muscle weakness, cramps, stiffness or spasms or changes in sensation such as tingling
Changes in the color of your skin or the inside of your nose or mouth
Hair loss or loss of hair color
Feeling nervous
Ringing in the ear (tinnitus)
Balance problems (vertigo) or feeling dizzy
Liver problems shown by blood tests
Drug To Drug Interaction
Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. Especially tell your doctor if you take the following medicines such as
Some antibiotics used for infections (such as gentamicin, neomycin or tobramycin, Moxifloxacin)
Cimetidine – used for stomach ulcers
Neostigmine and pyridostigmine – used for muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis)
Halofantrine, mefloquine – used for malaria
Amiodarone, Digoxin – used for heart problems
Medicines used for epilepsy
Medicines for diabetes such as insulin or metformin
Antacids – used for heartburn or indigestion
Rabies vaccine
Ciclosporin – used after an organ transplantation to help prevent rejection
Praziquantel – used to treat worm infections
Agalsidase – used to treat a rare condition called Fabry’s disease
While Tacking Hydroquin 200mg
Do
You have been prescribed Tablet for the treatment of autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus.
Take it with food to avoid an upset stomach.
It can take 8-12 weeks for Tablet to work. Keep taking it as prescribed.
Do not take medicines that neutralise stomach acids (antacids) four hours before and after taking Tablet as they can stop the medicine from being absorbed properly from your gut.
Have regular eye tests done while taking this medicine. Stop taking it and inform your doctor immediately if you notice any changes in your vision.
It can cause lowering of blood glucose level. Inform your doctor if you experience hypoglycemia symptoms such as cold sweats, cool pale skin, tremor, and anxious feeling.
Don’t
Pregnancy = This is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless potential benefits outweigh the risks. Discuss all the risks and benefits with your doctor before taking this medicine.
Breast-feeding = This is recommended for use in breastfeeding women only if necessary. The risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.
Effect on heart = This Tablet should be used with caution in patients with heart diseases due to the increase in the risk of irregular heartbeats. Close monitoring of heart function is necessary while receiving this medicine. The treatment should be discontinued if any changes in the heart function appear.
Musculoskeletal effects = This Tablet may cause muscle weakness if used for a long duration of time. Close monitoring of skeletal muscle function and tendon reflexes is necessary while receiving this medicine. The treatment should be discontinued if symptoms of muscle weakness appear.
Effect on kidney = This Tablet should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Close monitoring of kidney function is necessary while receiving this medicine. The dose should be adjusted based on the creatinine clearance.
Effect on liver = This Tablet should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases and alcoholic patients. Inform the doctor about any history of liver disease before taking this medicine. Close monitoring of liver function is necessary while receiving this medicine.
Uses Of Hydroquin 200mg
Hydroquin 200mg is used to prevent or treat malaria infections caused by mosquito bites. It does not work against certain types of malaria (chloroquine-resistant).
