• have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
• have symptoms of pancreatitis while taking Janumet 50-500mg, including severe persistent stomach pain, with or without vomiting
• have acute or chronic disease which may cause tissue hypoxia such as congestive heart failure, recent myocardial infarction, respiratory failure, pulmonary embolism, shock, acute significant blood loss, sepsis
• are over 80 without discussion with your doctor
• have a problem with alcohol
• are undergoing radiological treatment with intravascular iodinated contrast agents which may lead to renal failure, resulting in metformin accumulation and a risk of lactic acidosis

Warnings

The FDA requires a black-box warning for Janumet 50-500mg, because it may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acid in the blood).

• Drugs that are affected by Janumet 50/500mg: digoxin for heart failure, diuretics like furosemide
